Who Are The Poll Workers

Poll workers (also called election judges, elections inspectors or elections officers in some states) are the people who ensure the conduct of fair and accurate elections at a polling station. Each polling station is staffed with poll workers.

Depending on the state, poll workers may be registered members of a political party or nonpartisan and are chosen by a county, city, township or state elections official. They are generally volunteers, but may be paid a small stipend for their work. You may wish to view answers to frequently asked questions about poll workers.

The Election Assistance Commission (EAC) has established the College Poll Worker Program, which allows college students to serve as nonpartisan poll workers or assistants at polling stations during elections. For more information, please contact the EAC's College Poll Worker Program Office toll-free at 1-866-747-1471 or by e-mail at HAVACollegeProgram@eac.gov.
